Definitely a fan. Don't expect much in the way of decor or even comfort. Los Machetes delivers in what is truly important: Service, good food, value. A good lunch option if you happen to be in the area, stop by for a quick bite. I'm not an expert in Mexican Cuisine, but I have spent a good deal of time in Mexico and US Cities with large Mexican communities, so, for what it's worth, IMHO, this place is pretty authentic. I enjoyed a pretty good lunch with a good "batido de platano". Give it a shot, you'll be glad you did.

I have been to Los Machetes twice. The first time, I ordered the enchiladas to see if my wife would enjoy this restaurant. The enchiladas were good, but not what my wife would like, so the next time I went, I ordered something that sounded good to me--the smothered burrito. It was a huge burrito that was smothered in great tasting chili verde. I loved it. I highly recommend this item. I thought that the service was pretty relaxed and slow, so I'd say don't expect to be able to complete a half hour lunch at this place and make it back to work. That was really the only drawback.

Super delicious food! Having indulged in DF-Style food most of my young life, this was most definitely a treat! The salsas, both green and red, amazing! Fresh handmade tortillas with chorizo con huevo. A cup of coffee here is cafe de la olla, richly made with a hint of cinnamon. Loved the food, the chill atmosphere and like most everyone has said, super pleasant staff. Can't beat this little gem on 4700 South! Cinco estrellas!

The food at Los Machetes does not disappointed. The food selection is authentic Mexican-style food. During our visit we had the tamales, tacos de barbacoa, chilaquiles, and torta. The items are affordable and given in a timely matter. For the chilaquiles rojos you can ask for the level of "hotness" (spicy) and if you want your tortillas to be crunchy or soggy. You can also order an egg on top or shredded meat. I asked for my egg to be over hard. Most people have their egg runny (I'm not a fan). I like my chilaquiles not too spicy and crunchy. When my order arrived, they were exactly how I wanted them. The plate was served with rice and beans. It was a decent amount. The shop is also locally owed and in this location the waiter, cashier, and cook are all part of the same family.

Disappointing. Hole in the wall, thought it would be better, or at least more authentic. Overall, the food was very bland and the service was painfully slow. The best I can say is that the horchata was good, and you can see them cooking your food in the back. If you, like many others are coming for the $20 for $10 deal, do yourself a favor and just order $20 worth of horchata. The food isn't worth eating from my experience.

I have mixed feelings about this location! A during their am shifts they will be on top of things fully stocked on all food items they have excellent customer service it's a great place for lunch to be in and out! B during the night shift their service is the complete opposite they are always running out of something and will make no effort to accommodate for the inconvenience it's a simple "sorry sir we don't have that dressing we ran out" "sorry sir we don't have steak" "sorry sir we don't have grilled chicken" there is absolutely no effort to grill any missing meats or whip up a fresh batch of dressing it's a simple nope they ran out their customer service when checking out is pathetic the cashier has an attitude there is no communication between employees so you are having to explain yourself multiple times

Beyond bad... Cold stale Costco chips. No water Next to no service, no attention whatsoever. This in a restaurant that was virtually empty. Coke in a can, no glass, no ice. The owner kid running around... Warmed up greasy pulled pork... On a positive note, the coke in a can was real coke. Stay away!!! (the rest of Taylorsville already is) 1 star is too generous

Ooohweee! This place was really good! I am always on the hunt for a good Mexican restaurant, and this certainly is one of them! If you love spicy Mexican food, this is the place for you! Chilaquiles are super spicy! Enjoy!

I loved this place! The Cochinita Pibil (pork) was fantastic, very moist, nice hint of sweet taste to it. I had it on the taco, tasted like homemade corn tortilla, nice size for the very reasonable price of $1.99. We also had the Chicken Tinga and Sencillo Sopes. So fresh, rich taste to all the ingredients. Very fresh ingredients as well. The family that recently purchased the pre-existing restaurant is very friendly. The service was the best ever, so polite. They wanted to make sure we were enjoying everything. Very clean restaurant. Very authentic!

Still the best Mexican in Utah. Period. So consistent and authentic, feels like I am back home in Mexico City. I don't get the complaints about service being slow. If you knew anything about legit Mexican cuisine, you'd know it is made fresh and it will take a long time. :)

We went there and thought we just stepped off the plane into Latin America. Friday night and the place was packed and we were the only Gringos in sight. The best horchata I have found anywhere in the valley and it is the same every time. Their smothered burrito is a must try. We also liked the quesadillas. Good prices and a small family atmosphere.

Very nice people own and run this restaurant and the food is authentic Mexican food. We tried the cactus so we could say we ate cactus and it was good! Sprinkled some of the green sauce on it and it was even better! Give it a try!

This place was delicious. Comida casera! Very clean, family owned business. This will be our go to place on those weekends we don't feel like cooking but want home cooked comfort food.

This place is amazing!! The best authentic mexican food! This is coming from a big foodie big on flavor. It's a good fifteen minutes from me but always well worth the drive. It is a wait for the food to come, but they make everything from scratch. The price is also decent concidering the quality of food you get.

Very good and very authentic Mexican food. This is hard to find and somewhat unique, but the food is excellent. Very worth trying, but don't get your hopes up for a fancy place.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
